Read About The Homeschool Program Curriculum!

by Jeff Safin

When homeschooling the curriculum you use must follow the curriculum used in state and private Schools. Through grades one to 12 this will mainly consist of reading, writing and maths.

The major difference between homeschooling and private or public schools is that in a home school environment the teaching is going to be carried out one to one by the parents or a paid tutor, where as in a private or public school teaching is carried out in a social environment and in large groups.

All parents have the desire to offer the best education to their children. So it’s only natural that the parent would prefer to have more control over the educational environment of their children so as to provide an education that reflects their beliefs and values.

Types of homeschool programs available

Currently 4 different mediums exist to employ with homeschooling. They are: the Internet, software, video and audio and the good old textbook.

Each of these variations of a home school course is acceptable and should be selected by keeping one overriding factor in mind. That factor is based on choosing the program that best suits the learning style of your child.

Some children find it very easy to learn from visual things where as when reading they find it much harder. Others can find learning on their personal PC to be more engaging.

Naturally it is vital that your homeschool course meets the educational guidelines as imposed your local authorities.

Studying times and progress

Because any home school course is facilitated by a parent or legal guardian of the child, the pace at which the child learns is completely up to the parent. However, there must be steady progress in the child’s educational process.

It is not uncommon for homeschool material providers to set deadlines to help reinforce this. For instance often when you obtain homeschool materials via the Internet you will be given a license for 365 days in which you must complete the particular course materials.

Testing obligations

Most governments or states will require that your homeschooled children be tested to reassure all the authorities that your child is in fact learning with a reasonable progression.

Those authorities that require this test often require that it be performed once a year or once every two years.

Testing your child to see whether or not he or she is making the progress you desire in very important anywhere, so even if a test is not required where you are, it is still a very good idea.
