Stuttering management is a problem that many deal with on a daily basis. Before you can truly be successful with managing stuttering, there has to be some understanding of what causes the stuttering to begin with.
Words such a “statistics” which have several similar sounds are often more difficult for stutterers to manage. Stutterers can often develop a fear of words that they normally stutter on, causing the problem to worsen.
A long pause in between words and sentences is another stuttering characteristics. These long pauses are often in anticipation of possibly stuttering on a word or phrase, so instead of stuttering, someone who stutters tends to just pause.
There are times when a person who stutters may seem distant when speaking. These situations can also be attributed to the long pauses. Often the pauses may lead to choosing a totally different word altogether.
Stuttering in children under 3 years is not the same as a child that is stuttering in their later years. This condition is much more serious because most children get over their stutter naturally after a certain age.
When a problem becomes more than just struggling to pronounce a few words, parents must realize the need of a solution fast. Feet stomping in order to speak can often point to problems that may require special assistance.
Stuttering can lead to a lot of frustration and feelings of hopelessness that can later lead to depression. It is definitely time to consider finding the stuttering management solutions when your child starts experiencing shortness of breath or stutters after every 10 words spoken.
Becoming familiar with stuttering and its characteristics can go a long way in finding a solution. The earlier a problem is detected the better chance of solving the issues and helping a loved one become fluent in their speech patterns.
