Activities after school are a great way to focus your time and energy to a subject that you will actually quite fancy giving some attention to. A treat, something to look forward to, a change from your school, college or universities lessons and routine.
Taking on a hobby after hours can help to keep you self motivated, active and sociable. You will prove that you are a self-motivated individual who is dedicated to a cause beyond what is expected of them! People with an extra curricular activity can practice improving their time management skills. By taking on extra tasks you are proving to others that you can effectively manage your time and responsibilities. All of which are great attributes to display on those all important further education and job applications!
Now what to choose? You need to choose an activity that you’re really going to enjoy and be motivated to do! Either choose something that you think you will be good at and play on your strengths or choose an activity which you think is missing from your skill set and that you are eager to learn, like a language for example, a useful skill that will add to your attributes! or perhaps give something back to your community and volunteer your time for a charity.
Try and choose a rational hobby, consider travel expenses, equipment costs, lesson prices and the amount of time you will need to invest. You can try to keep costs down by looking for second hand equipment, or take a minute to figure out if it would be more beneficial to rent or purchase your equipment.
Taking on an extra curricular activity can be very sociable, an opportunity to meet new people, who are likely to share your interests. It is also a chance to meet people from different backgrounds, and walks of life. You will gain valuable life experience and also create contacts that could be useful in other areas of your life.
As you can see there are many positive reasons to get involved with an extra curricular activity, great for both you and your career, choose wisely and enjoy!
